Milton Guy Powell, Jr., “JR”, 85, passed away Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, surrounded by his family at home.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Burleson Memorial Park.
JR was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Alvarado, to M.G. and Bertha (Bryant) Powell. He married the love of his life, Ada Davis, in 1953. JR began his career with Texas Steel in 1955, promoting to lead positions after only three years. After forty years with Texas Steel, he retired to raise cattle and grandchildren. An avid outdoorsman, JR enjoyed years of hunting, raising cattle, bird dogs, and greyhounds. A devoted family man, he will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Powell; daughters, Cindy Aaron, Kathy Bolt, and husband, Glen, and Eleanor Hohenberger and husband, Mark; son, Mike Powell and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Roy, Christan, T.W., Courtney, Michael, Harrison and Justin; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Raegen, and Hudson; sisters, Betty Walraven, and Joan Hickman; brother, Don Powell and wife, Jean; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
