Johnny Edmond Sanders, 55, of Burleson, passed away Friday, May 27, 2016, at the Emory J. Lilge Hospice House, in Burleson.

A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at a later date.

Johnny went to Burleson High School and spent six years in the Army National Guard. He is the son of the late Henry Sanders.

Survivors include his mother, Sadie Hart Morris; sons, John Allan and Jeremy; sisters, Sandra, Pam and Connie; and brothers, Henry and Tony.

Helen Aileen Crawford, 87, of Joshua, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at the funeral home.

Helen was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Breckenridge, to Raymond C. and Willie (Lindsey) McDonald. She was a sweet, compassionate, loving, and incredible wife, mother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Helen loved her family and family gatherings, and was their heart and moral compass. She will be missed, but we rejoice in the blessed assurance that we will see again all those who have passed on before. A firm believer in helping others, Helen was a strong supporter of the orphans in Kankoole, Uganda, Africa.

Theresia SchnagI Dixon, age 80, of Burleson was born in Munchen, Germany, on July 6, 1936 and passed away Friday, May 11, 2016, peacefully while she slept at home.

Services are 11:00 Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home, with interment at DFW National Cemetery.

Theresia was married to Melvin F. Dixon for over 50 years before he passed away. She was a very dedicated mother and, for the last 15 years of her life, would not leave her son's side. He became wheel chair bound due to a brain cancer and she devoted the rest of her days to loving and caring for him.  The bible says that "there is no greater love than a man or women that gives up their life for another. "

Survivors include her two sons; other family members; and a host of friends.

Ama Marie (Kirkpatrick) Bryant, 90, passed away Friday, June 3, 2016, in Alvarado.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2016, at the Burleson Church of Christ. Burial followed the service at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Fort Worth. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2016, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home.

Ama was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Fort Worth to Eugene and Edith (Smith) Kirkpatrick. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Ama enjoyed time spent as a longtime Bible class leader, and was a member of the Burleson Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 64 years, Liston Bryant.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Pettigrew, of Burleson; son, Ronald Bryant, and wife, Paula, of Burleson; daughter, Tammy Worsham, and husband, Robin, of Ovilla; grandsons, David Pettigrew and wife, Riki, of Burleson, and Joshua Worsham, of Ovilla; granddaughters, Haley Love and husband, Zach, of Malibu, California, Kelsey Bryant, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Hannah Worsham, of Waxahachie; great-grandchildren, Jarett Bunch-Pettigrew, Emma Bunch-Pettigrew, and Haven Love; brother, Charles Kirkpatrick and wife, Carol, of Fort Worth; and many other loving extended family members and friends.

Chester Claude Smith, 96, of Keene passed away Friday, June 24, 2016.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Green Acres Cemetery in Cleburne, with Pastor Rick Owen officiating.

Chester was born March 19, 1920, to Claude Chester and Gertrude Smith. He loved woodworking, fishing and hunting. Chester served as Burleson fire marshal for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred "Honey" Smith; son, Chester Smith; grandson, Chad Smith; and great-grandson, Christopher McCoy.

Survivors include his son, Donald Claude Smith and wife, Sherry, of Highland Village, Texas; granddaughter, Dorinda McCoy and husband, Tony, of Cleburne; grandson, Taylor Smith and wife, Stephanie, of Bedford; granddaughter, Katherine Daley and husband, Nathan, of Atlantic Beach, Florida; grandson, Thomas Claude Smith and wife, Crystal, of Flower Mound; great-grandchildren, Amy Kimbrell and husband, Quinn, Christina Fitzgerald and husband, Ray, Jackson and Jakob Smith and Miles and Maeve Daley; and great-grandchildren, Madison Maddix and McKenzie Kimbrell.

Aubrey Homer Brannon, 87 of Burleson, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016.

Interment is Friday, July 1, 2016, at 3 p.m., Laurel Land Memorial Park, Garden of Ascension, 7100 Crowley Rd.

Aubrey was the seventh child born to Charles Clinton and Alice Leona Kemp on September 16, 1929, in Roscoe, TX. He graduated from Lorraine High School in Lorraine, Texas. He is preceded in death by brothers, Charles Brannon, JW Brannon and Clinton Brannon; sisters, Zonelle West, Cecil Marie Coates, and Mary Martha Brannon and grandson Michael Keith Hodge II.

Aubrey married Janette Nalley on January 27, 1950, and they were married 66 years. He is survived by his wife, Janette; children, Terry Brannon and wife Cecilia of Tyler, Texas, and Lori Hodge and husband Michael of Burleson; five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, with another due in September.

Aubrey was a Texas Christian University alumni and worked as an Engineer for General Dynamics and LTV, and retired from Westinghouse Corporation in Baltimore, Maryland. He found his passion following retirement in teaching others; as a substitute teacher at Burleson High School and teaching ESL and Spanish in the community. He was a self-taught pianist and would play for hours as his health allowed. He was a US Marine Corps veteran, member of Worth Baptist Church, and a Mason.

Nona Davis, 80, of Burleson passed away, Tuesday, June 28, 2016.

Nona was born Oct. 6, 1935, in Hess, Oklahoma, to Howard Muse and Eunice Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth L. Davis; and brother, Donald Muse.

Donald Ray Traylor passed away Wednesday morning, June 29, 2016, at the young age of 59.
      His celebration of life service was 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Turning Point Church, 10700 Old Burleson Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76140, with Pastor Robert P. Denton officiating. Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Brown, Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
      Donald was born Friday, May 31, 1957, to the late Donald Frank Traylor and Betty Jean Ray Traylor at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth. He was a member of Turning Point Church for many years. Donald was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed.
      Survivors include his Daughter, Amy Mae Traylor and son, Brian Joseph Traylor; three beautiful grandchildren, Christopher Ray, Madisen Rayanne, and Breanna Nicole; the ones who called him Bub, sisters, Betty Ann and Cheryl Darlene and their amazing children and grandchildren; his church and many good friends.

John M. Moncrief, 71, passed away at a local hospital after a brief battle with pneumonia on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, He was surrounded by his loving family.

The service celebrating his life is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 7, 2016. A private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the House of Hope in Crowley or a charity of choice.

John was born March 10, 1945, to T.A. and Bessie Moncrief, in Alexander, Texas. He spent his childhood with 12 siblings in Dublin, Texas, and worked at Sunset Café before joining the Army.

In 1969, John married Linda Murry. He worked at Greyhound Bus Lines for 15 years before starting his own company, J&M Home Builders, Inc. Before retiring in 2011, he built over 1,200 custom homes, churches, businesses and a funeral home. John also spent many years as a director for Community Bank.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Linda; sons, Thomas Moncrief and wife, Crystal, and Torrey Moncrief and wife, Colleen; daughter, Sonia Leverett and husband, Gary; grandchildren, Larry Moncrief, Alex Orange, Tyler, Cassidy and Caden Moncrief, and Chance and J.T. Leverett; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.

The man. The myth. The legend.  James Michael Creede passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016.

Services were 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at the funeral home.

James, aka Jim, was a NASCAR loving, classic car driving, Dallas Cowboys fan to the end.  Yes, he had his faults.  He enjoyed drinking coffee with his buddies every morning as well as using his senior discount wherever possible. Jim enjoyed long walks down country roads and watching high school baseball games.  He served his country proudly in the US Air Force. At the tender young age of 19, he met the love of his life that continued for 53 years until his passing. He truly embodied the famous song, "He stopped loving her today." Jim was a wonderful husband, devoted father, and doting pawpaw. 
Survivors include his loving wife, Janice, of Diana; daughters, Pamela (Uwe) Rabler, of Burleson, and Kim (Greg) Platt, of Rowlett; brother, Roy Creede, of Greensboro, North Carolina; and grandchildren, Krystal, Elizabeth, Zach, Courtney, Jordan, and Addison.

He will be forever remembered for his kindness and quick wit.

May 9, 1968 – July 8, 2016

Lorne Bradley Ahrens, born May 9, 1968, in LA, CA and passed away July 8th, 2016.

Born in 1968 to parents, Bill and Charleen in Los Angeles, CA. He grew up in LA and worked for the LA County Sheriff’s department for 10 years. He also played semi-pro football for the LA County Sheriff's Department.

Wanting a fresh start someplace new and being a life-long Dallas Cowboys fan, Lorne decided to move to Dallas, Texas in 2002 where he became a proud member of the Dallas Police Department. He met his wife, Katrina, while working for the police department where they both worked for several years on patrol. They became engaged in 2003 and married in 2004. Their first child, a daughter named Sorcha, was born in 2006 with a son, Magnus, to follow in 2008.

Lorne loved music, taking his family to the movies, playing games, sharing his stories with EVERYONE, and his dog, Gozer.

Lorne also loved being a Dallas Police Officer. Most of all, Lorne loved his wife and children. He loved taking his children to church and teaching them about faith, history, how to read, fish, how to shoot, and how to be a good student. He took great pride in attending the kids’ volleyball and football games and coached both kids in their sports. He and Katrina were a great team and functioned best when they were together. No one GOT Lorne like Katrina and they had a special bond that no one else quite understood.

He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Lorne is survived by his wife, Katrina; daughter, Sorcha; son, Magnus; and many, many friends and extended family members.

Family received friends on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, from 5:00–9:00 PM at Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano, TX.

Services were Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Prestonwood Baptist Church, Plano, TX. Burial followed at Restland Memorial Park in the Garden of Honor.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.

Gary Lee Alexander, 71, of Burleson, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 9, 2016.

There will be a private memorial service for family on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Gary was born in Yakima, Washington, on Sept. 10, 1944, to F.C. and Marguerite Alexander; the oldest of seven children.  He was a loving husband, caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

At the University of Texas at Arlington, Gary studied Automotive Engineering and he retired from General Motors after working there for 34 years. He was passionate about fishing, the great outdoors, and music. Gary was inducted into the Texas State Bass Hall of Fame in 2010 and has fished in the Texas State Bass Tournament for 50 years.  He loved to sing and play the guitar.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, F.C. and Marguerite Alexander; sister, Marjorie Lynn Alexander; and granddaughter, Autymn Smith. 

Survivors include his wife, Irona Alexander; children, Michelle Palomo and husband, Arthur, LeeAnna, Jamie, and Robert Alexander, and his wife, Ashley, and David Smith; grandchildren; Cheryl and Brooklynn Alexander, Frank Calloway “Cal” Alexander, and Noah Escobar; great-grandchild, Koen Kimes; brothers, Grant Alexander and his wife, Merlene, James Alexander and his wife, Doris, David Alexander and his wife, Robyn, and John Alexander and his wife, Becky; sister, Margaret Alexander; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Jason Cori Grogan, 43, of Burleson was killed Wednesday, July 6, 2016, during a test flight over Ellis County.

The memorial service was 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Burleson. Burial at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery will take place at a later time.

Jason was born Feb. 24, 1973, in Pensacola, Florida, to Michael R. Grogan and El Wanda Tekell Grogan from McLean, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1996, and was commissioned into the Unites States Marine Corps in 1997 to fly the AH-1W Super Cobra Gunship. Jason served two combat tours in Iraq and received several awards for distinguished service, including the Air Medal with Strike/Flight Numeral “16.” In 2005, he married Lynn Ann Knoy in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Jason graduated from Naval Test Pilot School in 2006, and was stationed at China Lake, California, to begin testing the weapons systems for the new AH-1Z Cobra.

In 2010, Jason left active duty to return to Texas with his family and began working for Bell Helicopter as an experimental test pilot. Jason was recently promoted to Pilot V and was an integral part of several projects. He was well liked and respected by all for his work ethic, his devotion to his family, his fantastic sense of humor, and his strong Christian faith.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn; children, Justice, 19, Katelyn, 8, and Aaron, 5; his parents, Michael and El Wanda; his brother, Todd; and his aunt Lana Grogan.

Mr. Hershel Allen Nesmith, 86, passed away comfortably in his home, and went to be with his Heavenly Father Sunday evening, July 17, 2016.
    Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Boulevard Baptist Church in Burleson, with Dr. Terry Williams and Bro. Paul Cooper officiating. Visitation is 9:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2016.

    Hershel was born April 3, 1930 in Marriana, Florida, to Oscar V. and Melissa Jackson Nesmith, and was one of 12 children. Mr. Nesmith enlisted into the Air Force at the age of 17. While stationed at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, he met the love of his life, JoAnn (Jody) and was married for 63 years before her passing on Nov. 14, 2014. Hershel spent his years loving life, his family, friends, and God. He retired from construction work, but remained an avid wood worker, crafting beautiful furniture, clocks, and other fine pieces. But above all his hobbies, Hershel loved music, along with his extensive guitar collection.
    Mr. Nesmith was also preceded in death by his parents; six brothers; and five sisters.
      Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Hogan and husband, John, of Burleson, and Janet Gilbert, of Arlington; brothers-in-law, Pete Latimer and wife, Shelly, of Burleson, and Coy Latimer and wife, Joy, also of Burleson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

William “Darrel” Parks, 80, passed away at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2016, at Huguley Hospital.

Funeral services were Friday, July 8, 2016, at Mayfield Kiser Funeral Home, with Pastor Jerry Clements officiating. Interment followed at Laurel Land Memorial Park on Crowley Road.

Serving as pallbearers were Jerrod Parks, Justin Parks, Stevie Parks, Dylan Parks, Wayne Parks, Jeremy Ibarra, Ricky Rudolf and Bob Sherrill.

Memorials may be made to Lane Prairie Baptist Church.

William Parks was born June 30, 1936, in Ryan, Oklahoma, to Robert and Johnnie Belle Enos Parks. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1957. On Nov. 4, 1955, William married Vera Streater in Fort Worth.

In 1962, Mr. Parks was employed by Buddies Grocery Store. Later, he worked at Skaggs Alpha Beta and at Parks Produce.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Johnnie Bell Parks; his wife of 50 years, Vera Streater Parks, who died in June of 2006; brother, Harrel Parks; and sisters, Pauline Webster, Dean Johnson, Lou Ott and Mickey Clayton.

Survivors include his children, Johnny Parks and wife, Cindy, Lori Halfmann and husband, Duane, and Steve Parks and wife, Barbara, all of Burleson, and Shari Parks, of St. Mary’s, Ohio; siblings, Robert Parks, and wife, Betty, of Fort Worth, Peg Klopfenstein, of Arlington, and Nell Story and husband, David, of Erwin, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burleson -- Maria Teresa Douglas, 99, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 30, 2016, surrounded by her family.
     Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, Mass at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson. The Litany Rosary is 7 p.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson.
      Maria Teresa Larrucea Douglas was born Oct. 8, 1916, in Amorebieta, Spain, to Pedro "Amorebieta I" Larrucea and Antonia Bustinza. She became a school teacher at a young age and selflessly accompanied Basque exiled children that were given refuge in England during the war in Spain. She remained with these children until they were all reunited with their families. As a strong and independent woman, she was very involved in historic and patriotic movements. She was also a woman of distinction, having been part of New York high society and a well-respected educator at Sarah Lawrence College. She was a world traveler, having lived on four continents and was known for being a glamorous and vivacious trendsetter.
     The grandchildren are grateful for all the memories that we have shared with her over the years. The countless summers spending time with her in Spain, the influence that she had on each one of us in our adolescence, the encouragement that she always showed toward our studies, and the unconditional love and compassion she showed to each of us will be forever cherished.
    Maria Teresa was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; her husband; and daughter Maite Nerea Agiretxe de Arana.

Johnny Edward Hughes was born a Texan on Sept. 19, 1949, and died a Texan on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016.
    Funeral services are 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016, in the chapel of Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home in Burleson. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at the funeral home.
    Johnny was a meat cutter, auto technician and always a musician. He enjoyed playing his guitars, hunting and his dog, Bud.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sue Hughes; daughter, Hannah Welton; and brother-in-law, J.R. Schumacher.
    Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Mauna Kea; children, Krista Bailey and husband, Kevin, Belinda Bowens and husband, Devonta, and Sarah Meals and husband, Brad; son-in-law, Jason Welton and wife, Kristan; grandchildren, Benny, Hunter, Noah, Chad, Taylor, Braxton, Cameron, Chloe, Samuel, Makenzie, Brody, Haley, Jacob, Emily, Isaiah, Savannah, Graycie, Cooper, Zachary and Zayne; father, Edward Hughes; siblings, Bea Schumacher, Tommy Hughes and wife, Peggy; a host of nieces and nephews; and his Oklahoma family, musical family, and friends.

Steven McIntosh, age 64, went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 28, 2016.
    The service celebrating his life is 1:30-4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Richland Hills Baptist Church, 6852 Baker Blvd., Richland Hills, TX 76118. Steven will be inurned at Dallas - Fort Worth National Cemetery.
     Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Nancy Giles McIntosh; his three children, Mandy and Shaun McIntosh, of Burleson, and Kristin Drake and husband, Scott, of El Paso; six grandchildren, Tristin, Skylar, Jaci, Eyan, Emalee, and Lochlan; and one sister, Susan McIntosh.
