Dolly Janice Spells, 84, of Keene, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017.

A family graveside service is Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Keene Memorial Cemetery, with Chaplain Larry Schneider officiating.

The memorial service is 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, in the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Visitation is from 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Rosser Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to the Dolly Spells Memorial benefitting the Nursing Program at Southwestern Adventist University. Please send donations to the Advancement Center, 100 W. Hillcrest Street, Keene, TX 76059.

Mrs. Spells was born in Henderson, Texas, on Sept. 5, 1932, to Ruby Lee (Johnson) and Raleigh Black. She was a retired hairdresser and a member of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh and Ruby Lee Black; and her husband, Henry David Spells, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Kay Foster and husband, Rob, of Keene; son, Henry David Spells III and wife, Kim, of Sachse, Texas; brother, Billy Ray Black and wife, Patsy, of Tyler; sister, Betty Ann Heinrich and husband, Gary, of Keene; grandchildren, Meagan Dutton and husband, Sean, Ethan Foster, Chelsea Foster, Henry David Spells IV and Gabrielle Spells; and great-grandchildren, Kamryn Dutton and Beckett Dutton.

James Raymon Heffner passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at the age of 80.
    Graveside services were 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, in Burleson Memorial Park.
    James "Jim" was the son of Bill and Valda Heffner, born March 1, 1936, in Hobart, Oklahoma. Jim lost his dad at the age of 5, after which he and his mom lived on an Indian reservation for several years.
    Jim graduated from Hobart High School, then attended Oklahoma A&M. He joined the army and was honorably discharged in October of 1964. He moved to Burleson and started a home building business, where he found the love of his life, Billie Orr. They were married for 28 wonderful years, working together to build the very successful real estate company, Red Carpet Heffner and Associates.
    They loved to travel and bought a couple of farms that they transformed into park-like settings. He was the ultimate animal lover, especially black lab dogs that were treated like royalty. One of his greatest loves was his eight grandchildren, assuring them they would have the opportunity to go to college and graduate with no college debt.
     He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Heffner; mother, Valda Pendergraft; wife, Billie Heffner; and daughter, Jill Heffner.
     Survivors include his daughter, Cheri Stribling, of Austin; son, Rob Orr and wife, Pam, of Burleson; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one special black dog.

Yvette M. LeGros, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016.

Memorial Services are 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Skyvue Funeral Home.
Yvette was born Sept. 16, 1933. She was a resident of Burleson, Texas. Yvette emigrated from France to the United States, became a citizen, and achieved her lifelong dream of owning and operating a successful restaurant. Le Cafe was in business for 11 years until she retired in the 90's.
Survivors include her two youngest children, Bernadette Allenson and Rosemary Carson and husband, Johnny; along with seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Carolyn would like to let you know that after 84 years, her work here on Earth is done. She graduated from Earth University and will continue living forever in Heaven. She entered the throne room 17 January, 2017, and was hugged by Jesus. I believe she was also reunited with a young, lanky good looking man from west Texas. She left detailed instructions for her children and grandchildren to celebrate her life here, which has now been completed. Low adherence to this instruction will not be tolerated.

Carolyn Spencer was born December, 30th, 1932, in San Saba, Texas. She was the third of six children born to Charlie and Matha Schwartz. Her family moved to Austin, Texas. Carolyn graduated from the University of Texas and began her career as a school teacher. While teaching school in Midland, Texas, she met, fell in love and married Joe Ed Spencer. They had two children, Carla Sue and John David.

We want to let you know that she lived her life well and was faithful to follow the Life-Giver, Jesus! We will remember her amazing generosity, her warmth, her energy, her love for life, and friends. She enjoyed a long relationship with the love of her life, Joe Ed, and she loved her children. She was especially gifted in her last life role as “Oma” and had more than enough love for all eight of her grand kids. She worked very hard all her life, up until the very end. She made a difference in the lives of many. We invite you to join us and celebrate together.

She is survived by her bother, Gene Schwartz and his wife, Shirley; sister, Mary Sue Byers and husband, Buzz; Her children, Carla Cockerham and husband, Bret, and their children, Jenny, Keet, Megan and Annie; her son, John Spencer and his wife, Marci, and their children, Joseph, Jacob, Carrie and Jesse.

Patricia Jean Horn went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice House at Huguley.

Pat was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was born in Boxelder, Texas, on Jan. 10, 1940.  In 2002, she retired from Alcon and was a resident of Burleson, Texas.   Pat loved watching sports and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Horn; grandson, Chad Horn; and parents, Bill and Mildred Bain. 

Survivors include her sons, Scott Horn and wife, Sharon, and Bill Horn, all of Burleson; sister, Billie Pirtle, of Bogota; brother, James Billy Bain and wife, Dorothy, of Avery; sister, Katy Audas and husband, Boyd, of Garland; and grandchildren,  Ross Horn, Courtney Horn and Cole Horn.

Larry Laverne Foley, age 74, of Crowley, Texas, passed away Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, peacefully, with family by his side after a brief battle with cancer.

The memorial service is 11:00 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, First Baptist Crowley, 400 Eagle Dr., Crowley, TX 76036.

James T “Jim” Peterson Jr., 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.

Services were Jan. 23, 2017 at Genesis UMC with burial at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Fort Worth. 

James T. “Jim" Peterson was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas, to James T. Peterson Sr. and Jessie Natalie Parker Peterson. In 1986, he married to the love of his life, Mary Camille “Cam” Corkins.

Jim’s kindness touched the lives of many and his gifts of time and talent can still be seen and felt in the craftsmanship of his pipe organs and the strength of the family he leaves behind.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Sr. and Jesse “Kitty” Peterson; brother, John “Butch” Peterson; sister, Natalie “Sissy” Peterson; and daughter, Kathy Barge.

Survivors include his wife, Cam Peterson; children, Mary Margaret Peterson, Allison Shannon Valencia and husband, William Valencia, Natalie Alice Peterson, Jayme Tres Waldt and husband, Zach Waldt; granddaughter, Crystal Barge; sisters, Mary Mae McDonald, Gayle Ann Beaird and husband, E.J, Beaird; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Rose Mary Grant Abshire was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Columbia, Tennessee. She was the fifth of six children by W.Y.C. Grant, Jr. and Ruby Mae Parker Grant.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, in the CKV Alvarado chapel. Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, from 6-8 p.m. at the CKV Alvarado chapel.

She was preceded in death by husband, Albert Freeman Abshire; siblings, Julia Grant Prentice, Helen Grant Byrd, Evelyn Grant Agnew, William Grant, and Patricia Grant Vegalahn; and granddaughter, Laura Lynn Lewis.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Abshire Lewis and husband, Ricky; son, Albert Abshire Jr. and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Ricky, Reggie, Walter, William Lewis, Albert Abshire III, and Kristin Abshire; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

Aaron Ray Stevens, born Jan. 6, 1991, a lifelong resident of Burleson, was taken tragically from this earth Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017

He was such a loving person who could change your day with his great smile. Aaron will be greatly missed by all.

Barbara Gayle Boman Goodsite, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, February 12, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The viewing is Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Clayton Kay Vaughan Funeral Home, 200 E. Patton Ave., Alvarado, Texas.  Funeral Services are Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, 301 S. Spears, Alvarado, Texas. 

Barbara was born Nov. 11, 1948, in Norman, Oklahoma.  She grew up in Mountain Park, Oklahoma, where she graduated from high school in 1967.  Barbara’s ambition led her to start college in Chickasha, Oklahoma, as a single mom.  After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, she and daughter, Michelle, moved to Edmond, Oklahoma.  Barbara’s first Masters was from the University of Central Oklahoma.  After moving to Texas, she continued her studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she obtained her Masters in Educational Leadership.  On July 6, 1990, Barbara married Russell Goodsite.

Barbara’s love for teaching will live on well beyond her years through the many lives she touched during her career.  She served her students and colleagues well.  Barbara was also known for her love to cook and bake for others.  She was a true servant to everyone who knew her.

Through her trailblazing battle with glioblastoma, she was lovingly cared for daily by her husband of 26 years, Russell, and her sister, Nancy Kuhl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Fannie Mae Boman; and niece, Carrie Marie Boman.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Goodsite; children, Michelle Roberts Strambler and husband, Terry, Brian Goodsite and wife, Laura, Bobby Goodsite and wife, Brandy, and Billie Hoekstra and husband, Dave.  Her pride and joys were her grandchildren;  Jaison, Gabby, Payton, and Morgan Strambler, Brandon and Whitney Goodsite, and Chandler and Alexa Hoekstra, siblings, Dale Boman and wife, Linda, Nancy Boman Kuhl, and Mary Boman Smith and husband, Ned; and many nieces and nephews who Barbara was very proud of as well.

Chad Aaron Parker, 34, of Burleson, Texas, passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Memorial services celebrating his life are 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, in the Rosser Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Dave Phelps officiated. There is no visitation scheduled.

Mr. Parker was born Dec. 30, 1982, the son of Connie (Burdett) Day and Samuel Edgar Parker Jr. He was an operations associate at Elevate and was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; step-dad, Donnie Day; and uncles, Ronnie Day and Doug Parker.

Survivors include his son, Aiden Cole Parker, of Crowley, Texas; mother, Connie Day, of Burleson; father, Samuel Parker Jr. of Fresno, California; brothers, Shane Parker, Jeremy Parker, Matt Day and wife, Lacy, and Josh Day and wife, Jennifer, all of Burleson; nieces, Shariah, Hailey, Sydney and Avery; nephews, Milo and Dolan; best friends, Adam, Daniel and Shawn; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Barbara Gayle Boman Goodsite, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, February 12, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Barbara’s love for teaching will live on well beyond her years through the many lives she touched during her career.  She served her students and colleagues well.  Barbara was also known for her love to cook and bake for others.  She was a true servant to everyone who knew her.

Through her trailblazing battle with glioblastoma, she was lovingly cared for daily by her husband of 26 years, Russell, and her sister, Nancy Kuhl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Fannie Mae Boman; and niece, Carrie Marie Boman.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Goodsite; children, Michelle Roberts Strambler and husband, Terry, Brian Goodsite and wife, Laura, Bobby Goodsite and wife, Brandy, and Billie Hoekstra and husband, Dave.  Her pride and joys were her grandchildren;  Jaison, Gabby, Payton, and Morgan Strambler, Brandon and Whitney Goodsite, and Chandler and Alexa Hoekstra, siblings, Dale Boman and wife, Linda, Nancy Boman Kuhl, and Mary Boman Smith and husband, Ned; and many nieces and nephews who Barbara was very proud of as well.
