Heaven has a new angel as Freeda A. Wells “Mamaw”, age 95, was ushered into His Kingdom on Thursday, April 14, 2016. The overwhelming void that she experienced as a result of the untimely passing of her only child, Judy, has been forever filled as they are now reunited through Christ’s grace. God’s promise of this reunion has her once broken heart overflowing with the joy that was taken so many years ago.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Interment followed at Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation was Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Laurel Land as well.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made, honoring Freeda’s memory, to Mission Hospice.

Freeda was born on Jan. 1, 1921, in Elvins, Missouri, to George and Ella Gann. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Wells; daughter, Judy Lowe; and all her siblings, which included three brothers, Robert, Raymond and Chester Gann; three sisters, Evelyn Gann, Vivian Black and Genevieve Tesseareau.

Those left to cherish her memory include grandson, Mike Lowe, of Oklahoma; granddaughter, Elaine (Lowe) Vincent and husband, Larry, of Burleson; five great-grandchildren, Jeremy Lowe, Brandon Carpenter, Shelby Lowe, Nikki Lowe and Chance Vincent; as well as many nieces, nephews and an endless list of friends.

Freeda was employed by the City of Burleson’s Water Department in a supervisory position before retiring after 17 years of service in 1981. During these years of service, she was presented an award for Employee of the Year in 1980.

Because she possessed such a servant’s heart, Freeda not only served her community through her employment at the City’s Water Department, but also through countless years of volunteer service in several local nursing homes. She also devoted many volunteer hours at Huguley Hospital, where she again received the honor of being named Volunteer of the Year in 1995 after logging over 6500 volunteer hours there. A picture and a plaque, in her honor, are still displayed in the hospital today. During its years of operation, she also volunteered weekly at the Hospice Thrift Store which was once located in Burleson.

Together with her husband, John Wells, Freeda’s love of Christ was expressed through their involvement and service n many churches throughout their married life and her involvement continued after his passing. Freeda especially loved working with and being around children. Anytime, anywhere, she would have a hug waiting, and room on her lap, for any child who wanted to “climb aboard”.

No matter if you were family, friend or merely a brief acquaintance, if you were fortunate enough to spend time with Freeda, you were impacted by her dynamic personality and kind heart. To know her was to love her.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Mission Hospice “team” for their professional, compassionate care during the last weeks of Freeda’s life. Your medical ministry provided tremendous comfort during this difficult time and our sincerest gratitude cannot be expressed through words. We would also like to thank Huguley Nursing and Rehabilitation for the many years of loving care that they also provided. Numerous employees hold a special place in Elaine’s heart for their unselfish willingness to go the “extra mile” for her grandmother….you know who you are, and you are appreciated. Lastly, thanks must also be given to Covenant Place of Burleson where Freeda was elated to call her home for over 13 years. Again, many employees were responsible for making her years there exceptional ones.
